BREAKING NEWS

As you may know, the proposed biofuel project on Semiahmoo First Nation land has been a source of concern for many in the community who live, work and recreate in adjacent neighbourhoods.

Tonight, I can inform the residents of South Surrey and White Rock that Natural Resources Canada has announced the decision to withdraw its financial support for the project.

Please note that Taurus (Andion) can apply for funding in the future but would have to re-start the process.

I will continue to remain engaged on this important issue and provide further updates as they become available.

What does this mean?

Natural Resources Canada has withdrawn federal government support for the Semiahmoo Bio Fuel project pulling their $14.4 million in funding.

We are ecstatic with this news in response to months of letter/email writing and lobbying of government agencies to oppose this harmful plant.

As we unpack the implications behind this turning point decision, we remind everyone that Natural Resources Canada may not be the only government funding source along with private funding which could carry the project forward.

Metro Vancouver has paused the Air Permit Application citing failure to deliver necessary information by the Applicant (Semiahmoo RNG/Taurus).  We strongly urge Metro Vancouver & Kathy Preston's office to reject the permit based on failure to deliver timely and neccessry information.

We ask you to join us again in emailing Metro Vancouver & Indigenous Services Canada with this news and how the announcement by NRC makes the project far less financially viable which may lead to shortcuts in its construction & operations.

A battle was won... now let's win the war!
